What a bizarre, beautiful, bittersweet evening!!
So, I decided to hit the lake this evening to catch the sunset with a fishing pole and was throwing the ultralight catching some really beautiful bluegills and small tilapia, when suddenly a big fish picked up the tiny bait and charged to the surface, cleaning the water. It was a bass, easily going on 3lbs, and I was seconds away from having him! I was on my ultra-ultralight 4lb test Handing setup, but I had frayed my leader earlier and didn’t realize… just before the bass hit the land the hook broke off and it was GONE.
That hurt, but I gave God praise anyway and prayed for one more chance before the sun went down. After a few casts my line went tight and this fish was fighting HARD; as hard as the bass was! The difference is, this fish was fighting weird, and I had no idea what was on the other end of my line. I prayed this fish would stay on the line, and in a few moments, I brought it in and my mind about exploded!
I thought I had a personal best bluegill, but when I looked closer it was my personal best Texas (Rio) Cichlid. These things fight SO HARD, and they are very rare here in Central Florida!
So in the end, I lost the beautiful bass, but I was blessed with a rare, exotic fish that I definitely didn’t expect to catch. What a blessed summertime evening!
Praying you have an amazing, Spirit filled week!
Kingdom Catch

P.S. – that Cichlid doesn’t look huge, but I’m telling you, it fought BIZARRELY hard!
